Solutions to DVD Shrink Can’t Open VOB or ISO Files
Posted on 24. Apr, 2010 by Chris in Blog
We often use DVD shrink to compress the large VOB or ISO files which are created from a DVD to the HDD using a DVD ripper like DVD Decrypter, for DVD Shrink gives us exact control over what to be compressed or ignored and which part to be compressed increasingly or decreasingly.
However, have you ever met such situation that DVD Shrink cannot open the ripped DVD file and just tells you it’s an “invalid DVD Navigation structure” or something else? Here are some solutions to this problem. Hope they are useful for you.
Solution One: Run the File through FixVTS
FixVTS is a free and tiny tool for you to improve your DVD files so that they can be opened in the DVD software like DVD Shrink and vobblanker. It is especially useful if your copy-protected DVD prevents DVD Shrink from opening it.
So you can run your DVD file in FixVTS to see if it can corrects the problem. You can read a guide on how to fix DVD files with FixVTS by clicking here.

Solution Two: Mount the ISO Image on Vitrualclonedrive
DVD Shrink sometimes have problems with certain ISO files in the HDD, you can try to mount the image on freeware virtualclonedrive and then use DVD Shrink as usual to compress the image.

Solution Three: Use Another DVD Ripper
If you used DVD Decrypter that has not been under development for years to rip the DVD, perhaps it would fail to rip the DVD with copy protection ARCCOS. In this case, even if the DVD was ripped to your computer, the file might not be ripped correctly or properly, so DVD Shrink cannot open it. You can try other DVD rippers that are regularly updated and capable of breaking newer copy protection.
Note: TouchUp DVD Ripper Platinum is such a program that is constantly upgraded to keep capable of decrypting the latest copy protection. For detail features about it, please visit http://www.dvdripper.org/.
