How to Convert DVD to MP4/MKV H264 with Freeware

As we know HandBrake is able to rip DVD but it doesn’t support ripping copy-protected DVD and most DVDs are of copy-protection. Therefore, most of the time we use HandBrake to convert the video to high quality MP4 or MKV H264 format after the DVD is decrypted using other DVD rippers. Following is the detail tutorial on how to convert DVD to MP4/MKV H264 using.
Step 1
Rip the DVD to your hard disk using other free DVD rippers like DVD Decrypter or DVDFab HD Decrypter. You can refer to our previous tutorial on using DVD Decrypter by clicking here and DVDFab HD Decrypter by clicking here.
Step 2
Download HandBrak by cliking here. After installation, launch it.
Click Source to choose the VIDEO_TS folder you have ripped.
Choose the output folder under Destination
Set the output format in the Output Settings. You can set it to MKV or MP4 which is compatible with more media center like PS3, Xbox 360, etc.

Under Video tab, you can choose Constant Quality to get high quality video but in this case you cannot set the exact output file size you want.

If you want to convert many episodes at a time, you can build a queue by making the settings for the episode and clicking Add to Queue. Repeat doing this for each episode you want to convert.

At last, click Start on the top and a window with encoding progress will appear. After it finishes, you get the video in MP4 or MKV format to play in different media devices.
